Choosing The Right Timber Memorial Urn.

Choosing The Right Timber Memorial Urn

Every memorial urn has its own character. Some families prefer clean contemporary lines, while others are drawn to visible joinery, traditional cabinetmaking details, or the quiet warmth of a simple timber form.

In our Perth Hills workshop, each design is made from solid timber and built with long-term stability, restraint and display in mind. This guide explains the differences between our main human memorial designs.

1. Column Memorial Urn

The Column Memorial Urn is our cleanest and most understated design. It has a quiet architectural presence, with framed corners and a simple rectangular form that sits comfortably in the home.

  • Best for: Families wanting a simple, timeless solid timber memorial.
  • Character: Calm, traditional and restrained.
  • Design feel: A dependable foundational piece with visible structure but minimal ornament.

2. Mitred Memorial Urn

The Mitred Memorial Urn offers a softer, more refined silhouette. The clean corners allow the timber to flow around the form with less visual interruption, giving the piece a warmer furniture-inspired feel.

  • Best for: Families who prefer a cleaner contemporary timber form.
  • Character: Warm, simple and quietly refined.
  • Design feel: Less traditional than the Column Urn, but still calm and understated.

3. Dovetail Memorial Urn

The Dovetail Memorial Urn is the most visibly traditional of the collection. Its joinery celebrates the language of fine cabinetmaking, with interlocking timber detail that gives the piece a strong handcrafted presence.

  • Best for: Families who appreciate traditional craftsmanship and visible joinery.
  • Character: Detailed, tactile and artisan-led.
  • Design feel: A premium craftsmanship piece with a more heritage furniture character.

4. Two-Tone Memorial Urn

The Two-Tone Memorial Urn is our most contemporary human memorial design. Contrasting hardwoods give the urn a stronger architectural presence, while the clean hardware-free form keeps the overall appearance restrained.

  • Best for: Families wanting a modern memorial with stronger visual distinction.
  • Character: Contemporary, design-led and quietly premium.
  • Design feel: A signature piece for those drawn to contrast, clean lines and modern timber design.

Which Style Should You Choose?

There is no single correct choice. The right memorial is usually the one that feels most appropriate for the person it honours and the home in which it will sit.

If you prefer simplicity, the Column or Mitred designs may feel most natural. If visible craftsmanship matters to you, the Dovetail Urn has the strongest traditional joinery character. If you are drawn to a more contemporary object, the Two-Tone Memorial Urn offers the most modern visual language.
