Dovetail Solid Timber Cremation Urn
The Dovetail is the most technically demanding memorial urn in our collection. Its exposed interlocking corners provide both the structure and the defining visual detail, allowing the quality of the joinery and the natural character of the timber to remain clearly visible.
Traditional Construction
Exposed Dovetail Joinery
The dovetail joint has been used in fine furniture and box making for generations because it mechanically locks two pieces of timber together. On this urn, the alternating pins and tails remain visible at every corner.
The joint is not an applied decoration. It forms the structure of the carcase and provides direct, visible evidence of how the urn has been made.
Individually Prepared
Precision That Cannot Be Hidden
Every set of dovetails must fit cleanly and consistently. The exposed joint leaves little room to disguise an error, so each component is prepared and checked before final assembly.
This additional work distinguishes the Dovetail from our other memorial urns and accounts for its place at the head of the collection.
Solid Hardwood Throughout
Selected for Grain, Colour and Stability
Each Dovetail Cremation Urn is made from 12mm solid hardwood. The timber is selected and arranged to maintain a natural flow of colour and grain around the urn. No MDF, printed grain or timber veneer is used.
Western Australian Jarrah
Deep red and brown tones with distinctly Western Australian character.
Tasmanian Blackwood
Warm golden-brown timber with naturally varied figure.
Australian Oak
A lighter Australian hardwood with quiet, understated grain.
American Walnut
Naturally dark timber with rich brown colour and subtle grain variation.
Secure Closure
Base-Opening Access
The crematorium container is placed into the urn through the base, allowing it to remain closed and eliminating the need to decant the ashes.
Mechanical Fastening
Threaded Metal Inserts
The flush-fitting solid timber base is secured using machine screws fitted into threaded metal inserts. This provides a firm, repeatable fastening without repeatedly driving screws directly into the timber.
Container Fit Guarantee
Select Your Crematorium Container
Separate internal sizes are available for the Perth MCB Blue container and the Australian National Grey rigid container. Select the appropriate option when ordering.
Perth MCB Blue Container
Prepared specifically for the rigid blue container supplied through the Metropolitan Cemeteries Board in Perth.
Australian National Grey Container
Prepared for the commonly supplied Australian rigid grey crematorium container.
Different crematorium container?
Container dimensions can vary. Send us its external length, width and height before ordering and we will confirm whether a standard urn will fit or whether a different internal size is required.
Workshop Finish
A Restrained Satin Surface
The completed urn is carefully sanded and finished to preserve the natural appearance and feel of the timber. The satin surface highlights the grain without the heavy appearance of a high-gloss coating. Routine care requires only an occasional wipe with a clean, dry microfibre cloth.
