Classic Column Urn

This classic column urn is a traditional design featuring pillars and rebated sides, all made in an appealing range of solid hardwood timbers. The beauty and variety of wood reflects perfectly the beauty, variety and individuality of people. Just as no two people are identical, so no two of our hand-crafted urns are identical. The timelessness of wood means that memorial Urns are not subject to the whims of fashion and they always have a place in our homes.
Our Urns are designed to fit the biodegradable plastic containers returned from the crematorium, which means remains need not be decanted. We fasten the base of the Urn using four bolts. This fastening secures the container into the urn safely and easily.
Appearance of solid hardwood timbers
Solid timbers usually display a variety of grain patterns and inclusions. Due to the natural variations in grain and inclusions, each of our solid timber urns is one-of-a-kind and unique to the patron. We embrace these natural features and use them to create a personal and fitting final resting place for your loved one. With our attention to detail and commitment to quality, you can trust that your urn will be as beautiful as it is unique.
Our solid timber urns are crafted with only the highest quality natural timbers, without the use of any manufactured products like plywood, MDF, or veneers. This results in a product that is not only visually stunning but also more durable and strong than other options.
Sizing and what you need to know before you order
Our urn is designed with a simple purpose – to hold the remains of your loved one. We want that design to make it easy for you to use. That is why we make sure that you will not be asked to remove or decant remains into a container or pouch just to fit our urn. We have designed our urn to accept the container given to you by the crematorium. Look at our recent blog post highlighting the range of our crematorium partners. We will make sure that you get the correct Urn you need.
We will make the urn to fit your specific size requirements at no extra cost! Generally, it takes a day or two longer to make an urn in different sizes but we will do our best to meet your needs if there are time issues.
If you are not sure then send us an email and we will do our best to help.
Manufacture and Delivery
At A Cut Above Woodworking we build Urns to order. We do not mass produce our quality handmade urns so we do not have stock items beyond a single Urn or two. The timber we use means that we cannot simply nip out to the big box store and buy what we need. That is why we need 5 – 10 working days to build your quality product. Much of that time is to prepare the timber to size and allow it to acclimate and accept our specific finishes. When building your Urn we start with raw, unfinished timber and dress it to the sizes we use for our designs. The timber is then cut and shaped to become the quality product you see in our images.
We finish our products using only environmentally appropriate oils and waxes. Our oils are based on plants and other environmentally friendly materials. We do not use fossil fuels – no damaging hydrocarbons. Our finishes are safe for you, your family and your pets. Our waxes are sourced from a local bee keeper and prepared using our own blend of oils. This makes for a unique finish that will protect your Urn for many many years.
